Today's-money figures use the Office for National Statistics’s Retail Prices Index: Long run series: 1800 to 2024: Jan 1974=100, the same long-run series the Bank of England’s own inflation calculator runs on. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. It reaches 2025, so the 2026 list is shown in the money of the day only. Only sterling is charted: converting the American and Australian figures would need an exchange rate for every year on top of the price index, and two estimates stacked on one number is a worse answer than none.
